Out of Sight, Out of Mind

One of the hardest things to come to terms with after having a baby is that a lot of your friendships are changed or lost forever. Remember all those people who said they’d come visit you and the baby once he was born? Odds are that in actuality they visited once or twice, never to be heard from again.

Now, it’s easy to blame those people for being bad or neglectful friends, but the truth of the matter is that you’re the one who’s changed. While the rest of your friends are likely going about business as usual (going to the bar, staying out late, etc.), going to bed early now tops your list of “Fun Ways to Spend a Friday Night.”

As sad as it is to lose friends that way, the fact is that some friends are only meant to be friends for a season. That has been one of the toughest things about becoming a mom. Sure, I try my best to hang out with “the old gang” when I can, but I’m also currently on the lookout for other new moms who would rather walk around the park pushing a stroller than sip $15 cocktails at a trendy bar.

Know anyone?
