Since we’re not Catholic (or another similar denomination) and Miles won’t be getting baptized, I don’t think we officially get to name godparents. However, something that every parent thinks about is what will happen to your baby in the event that something were to happen to you. It’s not the most pleasant thought, but a necessary one.
Which leads us to “who?” Obviously first we thought of our parents. But they’re all getting older, and God forbid something were to happen to us, it would be terrible for Miles to have to experience that same kind of loss again just a few years later. Then we thought about our siblings. My sister loves Miles SO much! But she lives with my parents and is single (well, attached, but not married). David’s best friend and his wife? They love the baby and live in the city…but they don’t really practice any kind of religion, which is really important to us.
Who did we decide on then? Meet Annie and David Cho. Annie has been one of my best friends for years. She and David just got married and they currently live in Washington, DC. They love Miles and Jesus, and we really believe they are the best choice…for now at least.
They understand that if my sister marries her longtime boyfriend (ahem…), she’s back in the running. But for the moment they are honored that we would even consider them to take care of Miles. (Annie actually cried a little when I asked.) It’s nice to know that were anything to happen, Miles will be loved and cared for.
That’s one less thing to worry about.
