Besides being hilarious and adorable, filming So…This Happened with my dear friend Liz also made me more aware of my clothes-buying habits. More specifically, my main takeaway was this: Cheap fashion comes at a steep price. Now, I’m not going to turn this into a big lecture about fair fashion, mainly because there’s a lot that I don’t know and a lot that I do know and am still having a hard time with.
But, because of what I learned, I find myself guilt-ridden when I walk into some of the stores that I used to frequent. So, in an attempt to avoid my usual haunts at the local mall, but still add to my wardrobe from time to time, I decided to give Stitch Fix a whirl. Even though the company was founded in 2011, I just recently started hearing about it – and kind of everywhere! In case you haven’t heard…

Here’s how my first fix fared.
(1) Liverpool Raphael Denim Jacket
I had asked for a leather jacket, so I was only mildly surprised when I found this other outerwear staple in my box. I never go for the jean jacket at the store, but I kind of fell in love. It was a good quality, felt thick, had good stretch…and fit like a glove.
(2) Pixley Brook Dot Print Tie-Waist Top
I loved the polka-dot print, and it was actually really comfy. BUT I just couldn’t get behind the knot up front. It felt like having a tail in the front! I have a hard time finding button-down shirts that fit me well, so hopefully they’ll keep them coming, and maybe I’ll have better luck next time.
(3) Pixley Carissa Striped Fit & Flare Dress
It actually looks much cuter in this picture than it did in real life. While there’s not always a lot I can do about it, it made my boobs look huge…which I don’t need any help with. Plus, the pleats up front drew way more attention to my tummy than I would have liked. Nice try.
(4) Gilli Margie Wrap Dress
I so wanted to love this dress! It actually fit me really well, but upon further consideration, I decided it would end up sitting in my closet more often than not. If my office weren’t so casual, I would have definitely kept it. Alas, we’re a jeans and t-shirts kind of workplace.
(5) Romolo Joya Bauble Pendant Necklace
Another one that was so close! I really did like this necklace, but the chain kept getting all twisted up, and I knew it would drive me crazy if I was wearing out somewhere.
So, in the end I only ended up keeping the denim jacket, but I’m okay with that. This was my first box from Stitch Fix, and I was actually really impressed that everything fit, and they didn’t send anything I flat-out hated. I guess that huge questionnaire they ask you to complete really works!
I’m already looking forward to my next box, and I highly recommend you give it a shot if you’re finding yourself in a shopping rut. Check it out HERE.
