Over the past few weeks as I’ve been putting forth some more effort and research into this thing, I’ve started to read other blogs and follow other women who at least on the surface seem like something to aspire to. Along the way, a lot of questions have popped up, and at the very least I’m starting to figure out who I’m not.
(1) The (Mommy) Fashion Blogger
I can with near-certainty say that I will never #OOTD. Every few months, I get this fleeting desire to be THAT mom – you know the one…fiercely stylish, always perfectly coiffed and made up, sunglasses, simultaneously juggling a Starbucks cup, their smartphone, and their equally stylish toddler. Truthfully, I admire them…but who has the energy?
Some of my favorite examples are Lisa and Jenna over at Lunchpails & Lipstick. Seriously, is that a mom and her kids…or a really cool babysitter? I have accepted that I will never be that mom, and that’s okay. That certainly doesn’t mean I can’t ogle and admire other moms’ crazy amazing style.
(2) The (Mommy) Travel Blogger
Now, I love to travel as much as the next gal, but along with the too-tired-to-primp thing, I have also accepted that baring some unexpected windfall or lottery win I will probably never be what is commonly accepted as rich. I’m okay with that. I grew up in Miami, and the beaches in Florida and the Caribbean are fine by me. I’ve been to Europe four times in my life, and I never learned how to ski. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t love to explore the world with my family; it’s just not in the cards right now.
Brianne at Stroller in the City, on the other hand, just got back from a dream vacation to Le Guanahani in St. Barth. Granted, the accommodations were provided by the resort (Side note: how can I get in on that game?), but still! The photos on the page as well as the ones posted on Instagram throughout the trip were amazing, but for now I’ll just live vicariously.
(3) The (Mommy) Sponsored Blogger
Out of all the blogs I don’t *think* I’ll be, this one intrigues me the most. While I certainly have no problem with the idea of brands/products I love sponsoring a post from time to time, I can’t imagine my blog being all (or even most) sponsored posts. What if I don’t feel like writing about XYZ on that exact day? It seems like this one is the most like a traditional “job” – not to say that having any kind of successful blog isn’t a job.
So far my favorite in this realm is Nicole at MomTrends. The site is simple and sleek, and whether the posts are sponsored or not, there are some really great recommendations all over it. She seems to get a lot of free samples to review, and offers a lot of top-notch giveaways.
Let me make one thing clear. None of these bloggers are just one thing, and I don’t think I will be either. These are some of my new favorite blogs, and I’m grateful for all they’ve unknowingly taught me already. I’m excited to see what I can continue to learn from them and others, and hopefully I’ll figure out where I do belong in no time.
