Every time a credit card offer comes in the mail, my husband and I joke that someone wants to give us free money. I think we’re all old enough to know that’s not at all the case, but we like to laugh at the simpler times of our youth when we really believed that.
Alas, maturity has really hardened me, and I’m much wiser when it comes to those too-good-to-be-true offers. Imagine my surprise when one of those offers turned out to actually be good AND true!
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Ebates.
I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials, featuring mostly attractive women declaring that they just received a check for thousands of dollars just for shopping online. Well, it’s not quite thousands, but I definitely did just receive this check just for shopping online. What?!
Here’s how it works. You have two options:
(1) If you have a good memory, start at Ebates.com. You can search through a listing of all the stores that offer cash back, and click through to them from there. Shop as usual.
(2) If you have a not-so-great memory [[sheepishly raises hand]], you can install an Ebates button to your browser. I love this because you’ll get either a small pop-up or the button will blink at you when the site you’re on offers some kind of rebate or cash back option. Again, shop as usual.
Plus, I’m fairly certain that at least one of the stores you love is on there. They have over 1,800 participating stores including Hotels.com, Macy’s, The Disney Store, Melissa & Doug, and Target – just some of my favorites.
In the interest of full disclosure, I would get a little kick-back if you signed up and started using it…but since you’d also be making some easy money, I figure we’re even. Then you can refer people, and they can refer people, and…it’s the circle of life.
So, JUST SIGN UP ALREADY! I don’t do a lot of blatant promotion, so you know this is legit. Let’s make some free money, people!
