Stitch Fix: November 2016

#BloggerFail

In between, work and home stuff and getting ready for a trip to visit my parents in Miami, I absolutely ran out of time, and wasn’t able to do my usual Stitch Fix photo shoot. I usually really enjoy them, too! But, you know, life.

Regardless, I did have time to try everything on and record some thoughts.

Truth be told, this was the most specific I have been yet in my description of the items I wanted. So, I was fully prepared to keep the complete fix for the first time ever. I asked for:

  • the elusive leather jacket,
  • a day to date night dress for my anniversary,
  • a cozy sweater that would work for both work and play,
  • work pants that are more special than black or grey that would work with boots for winter,
  • and for the first time ever, SHOES! I asked for either black booties (Chelsea style) or leopard flats.

Here’s what I got:

(1) Brixon Ivy Jovanny Knit Laser Cut Dress

I’ve just recently realized that I really like a pretty laser cut. I love that it’s a subtle way to add interest to an otherwise boring piece. Again, this dress is probably not anything I would ever pick out for myself in a store. (I find myself saying that a lot, and I love it!) But I did like the color and thought it would work day (with a blazer) to date (with the right shoes).

Unfortunately, this is one item I am glad I didn’t have time to photograph on. No bueno. The fabric was rather thin and quite showy in all the wrong places. I’m the first to admit that I’m pretty out of shape, and the place that shows those extra pounds is my belly. This dress on highlighted it in the worst way.

It was pretty easy to make my decision on this one. Verdict: RETURNED

(2) Brixon Ivy Petey Beaded Cable Front Pullover

When I looked up the items in my fix (as I do the moment I get the shipping notification), I was looking forward to trying this sweater on. It looked super cozy, and with a touch of sparkle, I thought it would be great for work and play.

It did end up being a little on the thicker side, which is good considering winter IS coming. It was also a little to big on me. I think that was actually the intended fit, but that sort of thing just doesn’t work for my body type. I just end up looking my bigger than I am. Who needs that, right?

Swing and a miss! Verdict: RETURNED

(3) Pixley Nilla Bitton Back Sweater

I don’t think I’ve ever picked out a yellow article of clothing for myself – besides my prom dress, oddly enough. So, I wasn’t completely sure how to feel when I saw that this sweater was coming my way. I wasn’t excited about it, but I wasn’t dreading it either. Nilla is right.

My mind didn’t change too much after trying it on. It was soft and oversized in a good way, but it was strangely clingy. As in, even though it’s a sweater, I felt strangely exposed. Unsurprisingly, my husband dug it. Wink, wink. I could potentially see myself wearing it over leggings on the weekend, but I didn’t think that would happen often enough to make the cost-per-wear worthwhile.

Close, but no cigar. Verdict: RETURNED

(4) Liverpool Anita Skinny Pant

Well, well, well. My initial thought upon seeing these pants was, “Yes, please!” I love this color! From the picture, it looked like these pants were cut like jeans, but the fabric looked like something slightly more work appropriate.

Of all the pieces I received, this was the standout. I need more pants for work as the weather starts cooling off, and they work well with both boots and flats. I do need to wear a belt with them because they are super stretchy and start to sag in the middle as the day goes on. Overall, though, I do see myself wearing these regularly. Heck, I have already worn them to both work and brunch with a friend.

Because I hate to eat that styling fee… Verdict: KEPT

(5) Skies are Blue Terese Quilted Faux Leather Jacket

Dear Stitch Fix, I appreciate the effort, but I don’t think this is working out. And by this, I mean the leather jacket hunt. I believe this is attempt number four? I’ll admit that we’re moving in the right direction, but I think I’m just going to have to drag my butt to an actual store and try on jackets until I find one that works for me.

This one in particular was just okay. I’m not super into the quilted look, but the shape and neck looked good. Unfortunately, the fit was off. It was unflattering unzipped, and smooshed my chest zipped.

I give up. Verdict: RETURNED

Another Fix for the books. And as an added bonus, since I failed in the picture department, here is a little throwback to that yellow dress of mine. What can I say? I’ve always loved Disney, and I think I was channeling Belle subconsciously. Enjoy!
