Looking Ahead to 2017

For many people, 2016 was a rough year. While the recent political climate keeps me from saying it was a perfect year for me either, I have to say that I’m pretty proud of what I accomplished in 2016.

Including this one, I’ve written a blog post for every week of the year. I left a comfortable job where I had been for many years in favor of pursuing something different and more challenging. I’m slowly building my online following, and am hoping to expand my reach even more with new projects in 2017.

So, what’s coming up?

I’ll be the first to admit that not every blog post is a winner. But the only way to get to those diamonds in the rough is to write…a lot. Sometimes I don’t feel like it, or I get busy and think there’s not enough time. No one said blogging would always be fun. No job is, right? You have to work for the good stuff though, and I intend to keep working!

logoMy friend Liz and I had so much fun on So…This Happened that we’ve been looking into other opportunities to work together. And we found it! I’m super excited about the website and forthcoming app we’re developing. It’s called Connect the Dates, and rest assured, you will be hearing much more about it in the weeks and months to come.

Also the name of one of my Pinterest boards, this is me talking to myself because seriously, I need to. Over the past few months, the effects of getting older never felt more real. I know I need to start taking my health more seriously. So, in 2017, I’m determined to figure out what works for me. I know I’ll never give up chocolate, but maybe I can add in a few more veggies or do an extra lap around the block.

In addition to making efforts to take care of my body, I also want to make the coming year one of more intentional learning. I plan on continuing my tradition of setting a reading goal, and I’d like to add additional educational activities to my to do list- listening to Ted Talks and various podcasts, attending lectures and classes on the NYU campus, etc. This city is full of opportunities that I’m not taking advantage of!

So, yeah, basically just chill. While I think it’s awesome and necessary to set some goals for myself, I’ve recently been learning that sometimes it’s okay to not be in complete control of everything. The fact is that I can’t be, and rather than letting that frustrate me, I need to exercise my ability to take a step back, take a deep breath, and just relax.

What are you looking forward to in 2017? Do you have any goals for the upcoming year? Any tips for helping me reach my goals…or coping mechanisms in case I don’t?  🙂
