For as long as I can remember, I have named Valentine’s Day as my favorite holiday. And for as long as I can remember, most people have thought I was crazy.
While the actual origins of the day are a bit mysterious, there has been some iteration of what we now call Valentine’s Day for hundreds of years. Yes, it has absolutely become one of the most commercial holidays of the year – raking in hundreds of millions of dollars for the flower and chocolate industries, and coming in only second to Christmas for holiday greeting card exchanges.
But hear me out! At the core of it, what’s the point?
Valentine’s Day is an entire day dedicated to expressing love
to significant others, friends, and family. I think that’s pretty great!
I know, I know. You should be expressing love to all the important people in your life every day. Sure, that’s true, but how often does that actually happen?
By all means, go on telling your husband you love him every morning.
Please do call your mom once a week just to say hello.
I hope you do send your friends fun cards in the mail for no reason at all.
Let’s be real: while those things sometimes get done, sometimes they don’t. And besides, just because you celebrate someone’s sheer awesomeness on the regular, does that mean their birthday should be less special? No way!
Celebrate love every day, but especially celebrate love on this day DEDICATED TO LOVE.
Here’s a round up of some of my favorite lovey-dovey finds from around the internet to get you in that romantic (or not) spirit of St. Valentine.
FOR YOUR BEST GUY
As much as I love Valentine’s Day, guys usually need a little less pink and lot more subtlety. These origami cuff links from Etsy fit the bill perfectly!
FOR YOUR BEST GAL
I can’t be the only girl out there who will never turn down a new bag, especially one this cute. Rebecca Minkoff + Heart + Pink = PERFECT!
FOR YOUR BEST FRIEND
I love this pink and gold make-up bag and brush set from Sephora. It’s adorable, I know I don’t replace my make-up brushes often enough, AND you can use the bag way beyond February.
FOR THE HOME
I am sad to say that our current doormat was there when we moved into our apartment. With this little number from West Elm, it may just be time for an upgrade.
FOR YOUR PET
I mean, how cute are these? Leave it to Target to make me consider getting a cat just so the set made sense in my living room.
When all else fails, there’s a reason people are making millions on chocolate and other sweets this month. Keep it classic with this satin box from Godiva.
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY LOVES!
