You guys. 2017 is almost over. We barely did it, but somehow we made it through. But, dang, I’m glad we’re just about done with it. There are just a few more days left, though. So, why not take a minute to appreciate a few of the things that didn’t suck about this last month.
WATCHING: Greek on YouTubeTV
My husband and I recently cut the (cable) cord. As a self-diagnosed TV-aholic, I was really worried about how much I would miss the ability to veg out and channel surf on lazy weekend days. Instead, it has forced me to discover and rediscover the shows that are available to me via Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube TV.
And, well, Greek, I just can’t quit you. This is actually the third time I’ve watched this little-known ABC Family show, and the relatively-short-at-just-74-episodes show was just as entertaining this time around.
I lasted all of two days in my university’s greek system, but this show centered around a fictional college in Ohio satisfies any desire I ever had to rush/pledge/initiate.
READING: Troublemaker by Leah Remini
I know I’m not the only person out there who is SUPER curious about the world of Scientology. I’m not about to stop and take a stress test in the subway station, but I mean all the secrecy and scandal associated with it.
When Leah Remini decided to defect from the church, it was a big deal. And when she decided to write a tell-all exposé about them, it was an even bigger deal. This book has been on my reading list for a while, and after seeing it on sale, I decided to squeeze it in before the year’s end.
I’m really just getting to the good stuff, but the book has been both very entertaining and quite a bit disturbing so far. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
LISTENING TO: What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress by Sara Bareilles (on a loop)
Many years ago, I saw Sara Bareilles perform in Jimmy Kimmel Live, and it was love at first
sight hearing. Sine then, I have bought every album and seen her live several times. I even had an embarrassing fangirl moment while riding with her in an elevator at a rehearsal studio.
When I found out she was working on a Broadway show, I was obviously excited. I listed to the cast album and made my husband take me to see it for Valentine’s Day. When she announced she would be going in to replace the lead, it took all my strength not to go again, but when it was announced that she AND Jason Mraz would be in the show together for only two weeks, well, hello Ticketmaster? I need tickets. Thanks.
And, so this album featuring Sara singing songs from the show finds itself back on a loop until the show next month. Sugar, butter, repeat.
EATING: Puppy Chow (AKA Chex Muddy Buddies)
My family is Cuban. So, Christmas celebrations always meant a huge Christmas Eve dinner with the extended family and a whole roasted pig. The first time I went to my husband’s family for the holidays, there was no roasted pig in sight. Instead, what I found was a veritable smorgasbord of sweets and treats.
I discovered many a delicious snack, but one of my favorites is Puppy Chow, also known as Muddy Buddies. The original Chex Mix is a might tasty treat, but this mix takes it up a notch with chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar.
Whenever we’re not with my in-laws, we’re sure to whip up a batch of these to munch on around the holidays.
WEARING: Sorel Snow Angel Lace Boots
My husband and I recently took a trip up to Maine to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. Besides checking that trip off of our bucket list, I was also able to use the journey as an excuse to get new winter boots. Win-win!
I wore them all that weekend, and have been able to wear them for a few snows in the city as well. While they are a little heavy, they are still quite comfortable and they keep my feet super warm.
So, now I’m torn. Hope for a mild winter, or pray for crazy snow so I can take advantage of this great buy?
What are YOU loving right now? Anything (including, but not limited to movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, books, theater, [NYC] restaurants, recipes, clothing/accessories, websites…) I should put on my must-check-out list?
