I think many of us stepped into 2018 expecting to do an immediate and complete 180 to the garbage that was 2017. No? Just me? Well, irregardless (yes, I know that’s not actually a word), we’ve gotten off to kind of a slow start. There’s been some good stuff of course (hello, The Lion King), but there’s also been a brutal case of writers/social media block. That’s totally a thing.

However, new year, new you pop culture to devour, right?

WATCHING: The Amazing Race on CBS

raceCBS has the perfect storm of reality shows with this, Survivor, and Big Brother. And the genius is that there’s basically always one of them in season. Well played, CBS.

These are some of the only shows my husband agree on, and as such, we are devoted watchers. Some might even call us super-fans – okay, not really, but we do watch.

In case you’ve somehow missed all 30 SEASONS and 15 EMMYS…

Teams will embark on a trek around the world. At every destination, each team must compete in a series of challenges, some mental and some physical, and only when the tasks are completed will they learn of their next location. Teams who are the farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first team to arrive at the final destination winning THE AMAZING RACE and the $1 million prize.

Sounds pretty epic, huh?

READING: How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life by Lilly Singh

bawseLilly Singh, AKA Superwoman, has built herself quite the little empire as a YouTube sensation, with over 13 million subscribers.

I just watched my first video of hers today.

That speaks wonders to her marketing team though. Lilly and mentions of this book were popping up everywhere and being reviewed positively. Plus, you know I’m a sucker for an inspirational, successful woman.

The book is somewhere between business advice, memoir, and pep talk… and I’m flying through it. She seems like the kind of girl you just want to hang out with, and the many celebrities she has collaborated with seem to agree. Check it out!

LISTENING TO: “Havana” and “Never Be the Same” by Camila Cabello

camilaOther than that one song that literally says “work” about a hundred times, I couldn’t tell you anything about Fifth Harmony or their music. All I know is that Camila Cabello was always kind of the stand-out, she’s part of Taylor Swift’s infamous squad, and there was some drama surrounding her leaving the group.

Well, thank you, Camila, for doing your thing.

The first two singles off her debut solo album are a couple of my favorites right now.

“Havana” is fun and reminds me of my roots (surprise! both of my parents were born in Cuba). And there’s something just hypnotic about “Never Be the Same,” so much so that’s it’s been playing on repeat for the last, oh, hours or so, and I’m still not sick of it.

EATING: Brownie Bottom Cookie Dough Cheesecake

dessertAlso known as a dessert trifecta.

One of David’s Christmas presents was this adorable Date Night Bucket List from Uncommon Goods. It’s basically a little canister filled with date ideas. We decided to draw one every month, and – luck me! – this month’s was to bake a delicious dessert together and indulge.

I immediately decided I wanted cookie dough cheesecake, and my husband went and one-upped me with this recipe courtesy of The Chunky Chef that also includes a generous layer of brownie.

It was beyond what I was looking for, and supremely tasty. Bucket List Date # 1: CHECK!

WEARING: The Depp Slouch from Nirvanna Designs

hatAt my very first visit to the Union Square Holiday Market, I picked up something from Nirvanna Designs, and have basically added to that collection every year since.

This super basic slouchy beanie is definitely one of the workhorses of my winter wardrobe. Besides fitting me cute (if I do say so myself), the inside is also lined with fleece, making it super cozy and warm.

Admittedly, some of their pieces don’t exactly come cheap, but I’ve had many of them for years and they’ve held up really well.

What are YOU loving right now? Anything (including, but not limited to movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, books, theater, [NYC] restaurants, recipes, clothing/accessories, websites…) I should put on my must-check-out list?
