Remember that time I said January was taking FOR-E-VER to get through? Well, somehow now it’s almost May, and I can’t handle it.
It felt like the never-ending winter, but I think the snow is finally gone for good and we can start looking ahead to warmer weather. We may be caught in a weird in-between, but I’ll take that over more cold any day.
Lots of good stuff going on in pop culture right now, and these are what I’m currently enjoying…
WATCHING: Jane the Virgin on the CW
I know I mentioned this gem of a show back in September, but I am now watching live (or close to live – thanks DVR!) every week, and Friday’s season 4 finale was a doozy!
SPOILER ALERT – Even four days later, which is approximately forever in this social media age, I don’t want to be the one to ruin this for you…
Michel is alive. Repeat: Michael who-died-of-heart-failure-in-another-shocking-twist-back-in-season-three Cordero is alive. Well, maybe… By now, we all know that not everything is as it seems on this show.
The internet is already busting at the seams with theories including a face-swap, an undercover job, and amnesia, and I can’t wait to see which it is come the season 5 premiere in the fall.
READING: How to Walk Away by Katherine Center
I actually just started reading this book after receiving an advance copy from St. Martin’s Press and SheSpeaks. There seems to be a pretty intense social media campaign happening for this release next month, and luckily, I’m really liking it so far.
The story centers on Margaret, who after a horrible tragedy on what should have been one of the most special days of her life, has to figure out how to get her life back.
I’ll be sure to include more of a review in the next TLF Book Club, but for now I’ll just say that I’m digging the lead character. She’s honest, with fears and doubts, but also amazingly resilient. AKA, a real woman.
LISTENING TO: Reckless Love by Cory Asbury
For whatever reason, I’ve been asked to sing at church three times since Easter (as opposed to my usual once a month). Since a couple of those have been fairly last minute, I was forced to learn this song that I had never heard before in a few hours.
After my first couple of attempts at rehearsing it, I had to ask one of my church staff members, “How many times did you have to sing this before you could do it without crying?”
I tend to not be super emotional most of the time (my husband might disagree…), so you know this song is something special. As with most songs, the bridge is my favorite part. 😉
EATING: So. Much. Less.
Am I on a diet you ask? Nope.
You may have read last week that I recently began my journey with Smile Direct Club. This means that every single time I want to take even one bite of something I have to remove the retainers, eat whatever it might be, and then brush my teeth before popping them back in.
In addition, I’m only supposed to have the retainers out of my mouth for two hours each day… which works out to about 40 minutes for each of three meals. That’s usually fine for lunch, but it’s harder for dinner and dang near impossible for a meal at a restaurant.
I’m thinking a happy side effect of these things will be at least a small weight loss.
It’s that strange time of year where the weather is super unpredictable. Just yesterday, the “feels like” was in the 30’s when I left my house in the morning, but well into the 60’s for my commute home.
On top of that, my office’s thermostat is all out of whack – as in, I need to put my coat on to go outside, but I’m sitting at my desk sweating in a short sleeved blouse.
On the bright side, that means it really is spring, and hopefully I’ll be able to retire that coat until next year very soon. 🙏
What are YOU loving right now? Anything (including, but not limited to movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, books, theater, [NYC-area] restaurants, recipes, clothing/accessories, websites…) I should put on my must-check-out list?
