And just like that, summer’s around the corner. Time is so weird, right?
Summer is always a fun time for movies, but tends to be a strange time for television. Summer is concert season, but it’s also brutally hot in the city.
Here are some of the fun stuff that’s helping me get ready for the months ahead.
WATCHING: Imposters on Bravo
One day last year, I had a random mid-week day off. I was lazing around the apartment and looking for something to watch. After having seen some commercials for Bravo’s latest foray into scripted programming and knowing how much I enjoy Odd Mom Out, I decided to give Imposters a shot. Here we are midway through the second season, and I’m still hooked.
Imposters follows Maddie, a persona-shifting con artist and a trio of her recent, heart-broken victims — Ezra, Richard, and Jules.
This show is a fun combination of dramedy and caper flick. Plus, the cast, including a villainous Uma Thurman, is pretty wonderful.
READING: Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
This book has been on my radar for a while, but it wasn’t until I saw the trailer for the upcoming movie version that I knew I had to pick it up.
Imagine growing up decidedly middle-class. Then you start dating someone, and things get serious. Fast forward two years. It’s time to meet the family, only to find out he’s a bazillionaire. It *sounds* like a dream come true, but it can also really complicated. And that’s what this book is about.
The wealth described in this book are so over-the-top, it’s hard to believe that there are people who actually live like this – no judgement, just out of my realm of understanding. This fish-out-of-water story is fascinating and wildly entertaining.
Here’s the movie trailer:
LISTENING TO: BTS
I was watching the Billboard Music Awards recently, and at event the slight mention of BTS, the crowd (probably mostly teenage girls, but still) went absolutely bananas. It was shocking! Here I am having never heard a single song of theirs, and these people are losing their minds over them. I had to investigate.
I’ve been a boy band fan FOR-E-VER (a la Sandlot). I’m talking N*SYNC, Backstreet Boys, Westlife (UK), heck even Menudo when I was really little. Gotta say, for all the hype, BTS was a little disappointing. 🤷♀️
First of all, I was thrown off by their decidedly androgynous look. I guess it’s working for them, but I’m not into it. As for the music, other than throwing rap into the mix, there wasn’t anything extraordinary about it. I mean, solid pop music, but in my mind, not worth the pandemonium I witnessed.
EATING: Fancy Chocolate
Thank you, ChocoCurb. Or more precisely, thank you, husband for gifting me with a ChocoCurb subscription.
There seems to be a subscription box for every interest these days, and very little interest me more than chocolate. However, I tend to just go for whatever’s around. What can I say? I love a good old-fashioned milk chocolate Hershey bar.
Time to step up my game! This monthly package is delivered to my office, and it includes three new chocolates for me to try. My first box has espresso, coconut, and essence of rose – adventurous and SO delicious!
WEARING: Scunci Spirals
When I was home for the holidays last December, I noticed that my sister was using a new kind of hair tie. It reminded me of an old-school phone cord, but she swore up and down it was the best hair tie she’s ever used.
Fast forward a few weeks, when we hosted Valentino at one of our buildings for their collection presentation. I noticed that many of those girls were also using the curly ties in their hair.
I finally gave in and picked some up recently. They’re pretty great! You don’t have to loop them around a million times to feel secure, AND they don’t leave that pesky crease in your hair if you wear your hair up all day.
What are YOU loving right now? Anything (including, but not limited to movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, books, theater, [NYC-area] restaurants, recipes, clothing/accessories, websites…) I should put on my must-check-out list?
