Remember that time I was talking about summer being around the corner? Yeah, well, it’s here now, and it ain’t messing around.

I’m sure in no time I’ll be begging for respite from the heat, but for the moment, I’m doing my best to enjoy it and take advantage of the summer sun…and all that pop culture has to offer this season.

WATCHING: Big Brother on CBS

BBMy husband and I look forward to summer every year, and that’s at least in part because we know that mean Big Brother is coming!

I have to be honest when I say that this season is a bit of a dud so far. As per usual, the beautiful people have teamed up. That’s no surprise, but they’re just kind of boring to watch.

I’m confident that the action will pick up as the season progresses, but for now I find myself pushing to get through an episode.

My favorite so far is probably Tyler. He pegged himself as sometimes being underestimated as a dumb beach bum, but he really seems to be running the show so far. I love when people can surprise you like that.

READING: Grace, Not Perfection by Emily Ley

GraceDear fellow moms,

Read this book.

You’re welcome.

I have definitely found myself exactly where Emily did – physically tired and emotionally exhausted trying to keep up with what I thought was the ideal life.

Guess what? It’s not normal for every moment of your life to Pinterest-able, and that’s okay.

Even though it’s something you “know,” this book really felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. If you’ve ever felt that pressure of FOMO or the disappointment of comparison, I highly recommend checking this out.

LISTENING TO: Kids’ Movie Soundtracks

bighero6My son has discovered Pandora.

He created a station using a song from Big Hero 6 as the foundation, and he has mastered the thumbs up/thumbs down function.

As such, if we’re not watching TV, odds are it’s his station providing the background music at home.

In addition to tunes from some of our favorite Disney movies – including Moana, Frozen, and Coco – the station also has a strange amount of Fallout Boy and Imagine Dragons.

In case you’re wondering, Black Eyed Peas, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift are a couple other of his favorites.

EATING: Ice cream

icecreamThere are few things in this world that make my son as excited as the ice cream man. And who am I to argue?

It actually makes me laugh because while most kids opt for something modeled after their favorite cartoon character or whatever is the most colorful, my wise-beyond-his-years six year old’s favorite is an old-fashioned ice cream sandwich.

No ice cream man around?

His newly-discovered favorite dessert spot is Menchies – “frozen yogurt your way.” He loves the ability to not only choose his flavors and toppings, but actually assemble it himself.

WEARING: As little as possible.

oldnavyThere is no doubt that summer is here, with temperatures this weekend reaching close to triple digits. Even though I grew up in Miami, I am not okay with it. Growing up, there was air conditioning blasting everywhere you went. Here in NYC? Not so much.

Our entire apartment is cooled by three less-than-powerful window units. And don’t get me started on the transition from sweltering subway platform to icy cold train car. It’s no wonder people get summer colds!

Thankful for awesome neighborhood pools and cute bathing suits like this one Old Navy sent me recently.

Like I said, I’m enjoying while I can…but also kind of already looking forward to fall. Sorry, not sorry.

What are YOU loving right now? Anything (including, but not limited to movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, books, theater, [NYC-area] restaurants, recipes, clothing/accessories, websites…) I should put on my must-check-out list?
